Henry Blofeld

World famous cricket commentator Henry Blofeld, OBE, will be the guest speaker when South Wilts formally christen the opening of their plush new sports clubhouse and pavilion at Bemerton in April.
The bubbly, boisterous BBC radio celebrity will be singing for his lunch (as opposed to his supper) on Sunday April 22, when the cricketers will use the superb £1.3m facility for the first time.  Blofeld is the second 'big name' to come to Salisbury in a few months, Sir Michael Parkinson having spoken at a celebrity sports club dinner last autumn.
South Wilts will host a Hampshire XI in a twenty20 match immediately after the lunch, which begins at 1 o'clock.   Tickets for the lunch, priced £40, can be obtained from James Hayward (07833 226 812) or via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. South Wilts begin pre-season fitness training at Bemerton on Friday February 17 (8pm) and will have another outdoor session seven days later before concentrating on indoor net sessions at Stanbridge Earls School, near Romsey.Henry Blowfeld
"We need to improve our all round fitness and sharpness if we are to be among the challengers in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League this season," Hayward said.
"Tom Morton will be taking the sessions and I, for one, plan to be there every week.
"We've got the potential at South Wilts to do well and need to focus our attention to producing the goods on the field."
