SIMON MASSEY, NEW MILTON

Simon Massey

Simon Massey, the former New Milton and Hampshire 2nd XI cricketer, has died at the age of 50. A hard-hitting batsman and spin bowler, he was on the Hampshire staff at Northlands Road for three seasons between 1980 and 1982, when he also played Southern League cricket for New Milton.
After being released by Hampshire, Massey played for Berkshire in the Minor Counties Championship, rejoining New Milton for another three seasons and winning the Hampshire League batting award in 1999. Massey also played for Finchampstead and went on to become a qualified coach at the highest level. More recently he was a senior coach with Surrey CCC based at the Oval.  He is believed to have suffered a heart problem. Funeral details will be posted when known.
