UNDER-21s WIN ON ISLE OF WIGHT
The Southern Electric Premier League won their Under-21 representative match against the Isle of Wight CB by 83-runs. The superb Newclose surface was a batsman's paradise, although the SEPL had to haul themselves away from an uncertain 138-5 (Will Phillips 39) before posting 305-9. Alton's Scott Myers, who had scored an SPL century against Ventnor on the same strip 48 hours earlier, and James Haggaty (51) turned things around as the IWCB lacked a sixth recognised bowler. Josh Buckingham slapped a quick-fire 44 as the SEPL took their total beyond the 300-mark. Jamie Miller (3-51) and James Cheek (3-83) shared six of the wickets. Haggaty's left-arm seam, which accounted for Hugh Calloway and Cameron Mitchell, left the IWCB struggling at 16-2, but Ventnor teenagers James Cheek (46) and Adam Hose (47) rallied. Apart from Miller (33), the IWCB middle-order gradually ebbed away and, after late resistance, the innings closed at 222-9, with Haggaty (3-33) returning the best bowling figures.Jack Cockram, Robert Gibson and Chris Jolley took two wickets each.
