BASHLEY COCKSPUR T20 HOPES END IN THE RAIN

BASHLEY’S hopes of emulating Bournemouth’s ECB Cockspur Twenty20 Cup success ended in the mist and drizzle at Preston Nomads, near Brighton.
Following their Southern Premier t20 triumph on Thursday night, the New Forest outfit went forward to represent the Southern Electric Premier League in the national competition.
But they were defeated by Wimbledon in the last four of the southern regional finals, where they were also joined by Bexley and Horsham to battle for a qualification place in the Sky Sports-televised grand finals at the Rose Bowl next month.
With rain reducing their match to 15 overs per side, Bash could only manage 111 in reply to Wimbledon’s 131.
Disappointed skipper Andy Neal said: “We’ve done really well to achieve what we have with not having the strongest team. We’ve worked out a way of playing the Twenty20 format.”
Wimbledon did, though, go on to lift the southern region title, easily beating Bexley (91) after posting 132 in the rain trimmed 15 overs.
They visit either Gloucestershire-based Frocester or Cornishmen St Just on September 5.
