ROSE BOWL SET TO LIGHT UP ELECTRIC TWENTY20 CUP FINAL
Bashley (Rydal) and Hook & Newnham Basics go head-to-head in tonight’s floodlit Southern Electric twenty20 Cup final at the Rose Bowl, 7pm. The winners of the Premier League showpiece will qualify for the ECB’s Cockspur t20 Cup, which Bournemouth went on to win in front of a live television audience last September. Looking a well organised unit, Bashley (Rydal) knocked Bournemouth out of the Electric Cup in last month’s semi-finals and are favourites to win this evening. It will be the first time Hook & Newnham have played a Premier Division side on their way to the final – but they are optimistic they can pull off a shock. A cup final bonus for Hook is that Neil Marsh – a member of the Hampshire YCs side which won the ECB Under-17 County Championships four years ago – has returned safely from New York and is set to bat at three. Bashley expect to have teenager Jake Lilley opening their attack – the Academy youngster having damaged his thumb six weeks ago. The winners of tonight’s cup final will be straight into ECB Cockspur t20 Cup action against the Bexley, Horsham and Wimbledon – the twenty20 champion clubs from Kent, Sussex and Surrey - at the delightful Preston Nomads ground at Fulking, west of Brighton, on Sunday. Bashley (Rydal): Andy Neal (Captain), Andy Sexton, Neil Thurgood, Richard Morris, Dan Friedman, Nick Baker, Callum Maher, Neil Prince, Ross Grierson, Kevin Nash, Matt King, Jake Lilley. Hook & Newnham Basics: Ben Thane (Captain), Jordan Hobday, Neil Marsh, Matt Love, Richie Willcock, Ross Hunter, Ben Allnutt, Josh Buckingham, Kevin Poulter, Anik Divecha, Glenn Williams. Umpires: Ray Holyer and Chris Read (South Coast Panel).
