HAMPSHIRE VETS THROUGH TO SPITFIRE 60s SEMI-FINALS

Veteran Havant batsman Geoff Owen hit 103 as Hampshire Seniors reached the Spitfire Over-60s County Championship semi-finals with a 33-run win over Devon at Hursley Park.  Owen and Bramshaw's Brian Hart (41) put on 81 for the fourth wicket to enable Hampshire to reach 210-8 off 45 overs. Devon appeared well placed at 122-3, but a double breakthrough by Hursley Park left-arm spinner Chris Westbrook unsettled the West Country side, who collapsed to 177 all out, with Mike Swain taking 4-28. John Paine also took two wickets as Hampshire underlined the virtue of accuracy by clean bowling eight Devon batsmen and having a ninth trapped leg before wicket.  Stan Rudder, who is fighting a courageous battle against cancer, was supporting the Hampshire side from the boundary line.
