BIG SWAIN HUNDRED PUTS HAMPSHIRE VETS IN QUARTER-FINALS
Former Gosport Borough left-hander Mike Swain, pictured, hit a magnificent 153 as Hampshire's Golden Oldies cricketers qualified for the quarter-finals of the Spitfire Over-60s Cup with a 89-run win over Worcestershire at St Cross. It was the second highest score of Swain's career and set up a last eight showdown with Devon at Hursley Park on Monday, 1pm. Hampshire lost two early wickets, but Swain and one-time Deanery opener Ian Watson (69) turned the tide with a stand of 158, which Shanklin's Rob Hall (31) improved to take the score on to 264-4. Twyford seamer John Paine took 4-29 as Worcestershire made 175 in reply. Hampshire's squad to play Devon is: J Bridle, N Blackey, P Green, B Hart, J Hall, M Hall, J Hicks, R Kyte, G Owen, J Paine, J Smallbone, M Swain, I Watson, C Westbrook.
