"INDIAN DAVE" GUIDES TOTTON TO VICTORY
Owamir Afzal (pictured) took five wickets and later played a key batting role as Totton & Eling beat Southern Electric t20 Cup finalists Bashley (Rydal) by five wickets at the BCG. Afzal took 5-32 with his off-spin and then guided Totton to victory with a key innings of 48. The Indian all-rounder was the catalyst as Bashley dipped from a promising 116-2 to 149-9 before closing at 170 all out. Richard Morris, pictured, (68) and Neil Thurgood (42) had previously steered Bashley into a sound positition but, after rain interruptions, the spin of Afzal and Rob Franklin (2-24) sent the innings into freefall. Further rain delays led to Totton’s target being reduced to 148 off 41 overs – something they achieved with some comfort. They were a little uncertain at 34-2 (David Banks 22), but Jimmy Taylor (42) and Afzal (48) added 64 for the third wicket to point the Eels towards the victory line.
