Totton & Eling's Luke Towers

MAIDEN CENTURY FOR TOTTON'S TOWERS IN TASMANIA

Luke Towers, who played ECB Southern Electric Premier League cricket for Totton & Eling this summer, scored his maiden First Class century for Western Australia. The Melville opener enjoyed a breakthrough innings with 124 as WA controlled the opening day against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval. Western Australia's batting has been a problem again this season but Towers made sure it was in good shape today, beating his previous best of 49, to steer his team to 4 for 244.

Aged 21 and in his eighth first-class game, Towers showed maturity to hold the innings together after the Warriors were in some early discomfort at 2 for 65. The captain Adam Voges (ex-Bournemouth) then chipped in with 52, combining in a 106-run stand with Towers, before falling to Brett Geeves.

Towers continued to build the total during a chanceless innings that included 16 fours and lasted 286 balls. It ended when he was caught behind off Luke Butterworth after the Tigers took the second new ball.  Getty Images
