HAVANT FACE CUP SELECTION POSER - CAN THISTLE PLAY ? Havant are preparing for a massive weekend in which they face ECB Southern Electric Premier League strugglers Andover in a Time Pennant match at Havant Park (11.30) and take on Basingstoke & North Hants at Mayr's Bounty (1pm) for a place in the national phase of the ECB Club Championships. Aiming for a third straight title, Havant are already top of the Premier Division and favourites to win it again. Phil Loat is back against Havant. But Lawrie Prittipaul's team selection for Sunday's cup tie has been thrown into confusion by the ECB apparently declaring that Western Australia based Grant Thistle is ineligible, even though he has played in the last two rounds ! Thistle is a UK passport holder. Prior to the commencement of the competition, the ECB advised all clubs that foreign nations with British Citizen stamped on their UK passports could play. Theu now appear to have done and about-turn and ruled otherwise ! Second placed Bournemouth host Alton, with Joe Hall and Mark House celebrating call-ups from the 2nd XI. Alton are unchanged. South Wilts have lost the services of Solent University seamer Steve Warner for the remainder of the season. He has returned to Reigate Priory and a job with a local car clamping firm. An unbeaten century against Bashley (Rydal) II last weekend has propelled Mike West into the Totton & Eling line up against Bashley (Rydal), who have Richard Morris sidelined after midweek surgery. Ricky Rawlins and Ian Richardson are missing for Totton, who will have the sprightly Nigel Bungay behind the stumps., James Vince, who hit 76 on Hampshire county championship debut last week, returns for the Academy against St Cross Symondians. Matt Kleinveldt looks for a third successive century. Top billing in SPL2 is the Rowledge-Burridge clash - a game to be featured on BBC Radio Solent - while champions Ventnor play down the road at Hartley Wintney. Barbados bound Charlie Freeston is missing. Hambledon, who host Langlebury in the Village Cup on Sunday, are boosted by the news that skipper James Scutt has had his four-match suspension reduced. The third and fourth weeks of the ban are now 'suspended' until the end of the season. The Dons visit OTs & Romsey. Division 3 top dogs Gosport Borough are without evergreen wicketkeeper Pete Robson against Paultons, while Portsmouth bid to avoid a fourth successive defeat when Bournemouth II visit Southsea seafront.
